Sometimes it can seem like it’s impossible to break a weight loss plateau. It is easy to be motivated at first, but as time passes you may get frustrated – especially when the results seem to be less drastic than they were in the beginning. Hence the phrase, weight loss plateau.

How can some people manage to lose the weight and keep it off and avoid the weight loss plateau? Which methods do they use to accomplish this? Don’t worry – there are simple tips to get you back on the right track. Keep in mind though – what is simple to do is also simple, not to do…it’s up to you.

First things first – you need to develop or refine specific goals for losing weight before you plan to break a weight loss plateau. Also realize that the closer you get to your goal weight the more common it is to hit a weight loss plateau. Before attacking the weight loss plateau, take time to refocus and revisit the foundation.  Do you know how much weight you want to lose? Do you want to feel better about yourself, be a healthier, happier person and be there for your family? What is at the core of your ambition to lose weight?

You have got to keep your eyes on the prize and keep your head in the game. How have the goals change since you first started working out? Revision is essential as your body evolves along with the routine. Now that you have a plan let’s get into a few tips that will help you conquer the beast.

How to Break a Weight Loss Plateau – Fail to Plan, Plan to Fail!

Having to stare your progress (or lack thereof) in the face is one way to keep yourself on track and making sure you have not become complacent. A big reason for reaching a weight loss plateau is that without realizing it, you stopped pushing as hard as you were when you were all pumped up to get going.

You should try writing down everything you eat in a diary. Calculate your total calories consumed every day to make sure you’re not over your limit. Record your weight every week in this journal too. Graphs help motivate because they give you a visual of what is happening to your body.

How to Break a Weight Loss Plateau – Cleaning out Your Closet…

Or your cupboard to be more specific. Stock your home with quality nutritional foods – including fresh fruits and vegetables. If you are still buying junk foods and fatty foods,  you will be battling unnecessary temptations and could fall away from your diet. I’m not saying cut out junk food completely. The saying goes, “Cheaters never prosper.” That doesn’t apply today…within reason of course.

This will help you balance yourself and not let the cravings get the best of you. It is also a great way to keep the body in its awake state, ready to fight the fat and avoid the weight loss plateau.  Reserve one day a week to eat whatever you want but use discretion. When I say eat whatever you want it doesn’t mean go hog-wild on it. Go ahead and treat yourself but have self control. Over time you will begin to notice the craving for the unhealthy snacks start to diminish.

How to Break a Weight Loss Plateau – The Variety Pack Mindset

Why do you buy the variety pack…? Because sometimes the same old thing gets boring. Your muscles are the same way so you have to keep them guessing and that will keep them burning, toning and killing those calories. You have to take the time for physical activities that you actually want to do.

Finding the exercises that you enjoy will help you push past and break a weight loss plateau. Maybe you like chilling with your friends. Shoot some hoops with them! Are you a wild one? Try taking salsa lessons! Do you escape life by going out into nature? Go on a hike in the great outdoors or explore your local park.

One of the best ways to break through the weight loss plateau is to KEEP YOUR BODY GUESSING. The plateau happens because your muscles actually have memory and they get into a routine. Keep the variety pack mentality, keep your muscles in shock mode and keep the progress going.
